As one who lives and breathes fashion, it's pretty simple as to how I can incorporate my own industry in Earth Day activities. I think these tips should be exercised on a regular basis, and I'm going to share them with you as we continue to celebrate and save our environment! Here are my top 5 style tips on how to fashionably celebrate Earth Day:
1. Pass it on! Hand-me-downs are way cooler than they used to be, especially because vintage is so hot right now. Share the items in your closet that you don't want with your friends and family, donate the unwanted to a homeless shelter or Goodwill. It's amazing to see how many people really just throw away clothes because they're too lazy to haul a bag to a donation location! If you see this happening, offer to deliver for your friend.
2. Host a clothing swap! Want a fair trade? Organize a "frock party" or clothing swap with your group of friends. Jessica, the blogger behind Midwest Muse tells us all about her frock party in her blog post. Love your girlfriend's Yellow Box flip-flops that she doesn't wear anymore? Suggest she brings them to the clothing swap you host!
3. Old is the new new - get it? Vintage clothing is a booming industry- and for good reason! More and more women are doing everything they can to differentiate themselves from the pack. Being an individual is cool again, and vintage or second hand clothing is all the rage. Pair your Yellow Box sandals with a vintage floral dress from a thrift store for a fashionable (and environmentally friendly) look!
4. Be Gentile! The less wear and tear on your clothing and accessories, the longer they will last. Who needs new jeans when you're still loving the ones you bought from Express 5 years ago (and they're still in perfect condition)?
5. Do Laundry the Eco-Friendly way. We found some fantastic tips from Real Simple as to how your laundry routine can be better for the environment, with tips like doing laundry only when you have a full load and hanging your clothes to dry.
Happy Earth Day! Now you can celebrate in style.
